Stanbury and District Women’s Institute had a fun evening last week, with members from Laycock and Morton. Andy Lloyd demonstrated how to make chocolate and amaretto truffles that the members ate, then his helpers served the fish, chips and peas they had just cooked.

The after-supper entertainment was Andy singing 60s hits, including Cliff Richard songs, along with jokes and audience participation in the singing and dancing. A wonderful evening was enjoyed by all.

Haworth West Lane Baptist Amateur Operatic Company stage their annual Gilbert and Sullivan production from November 17 to 22. This year is the group’s 50th anniversary double bill with HMS Pinafore and Trial By Jury. Rehearsals are well under way under Michael Lofthouse producing and Pamela Dimbleby directing the music. Tickets cost £10 or £5 for children, with £8 tickets for the over-60s on the Monday and Saturday matinée. Gerry Hatricks are a big swing and jazz band, 17-strong, formed in Keighley last year by John Large. The band gave their first concert in Oakworth earlier this month with vocalist Michaela Smith. It was so successful their next concert is at Haworth Parish Church at 7.30pm on November 14. Worth Valley Young Farmer’s Club had a novelty judging night, judging different types of mugs at The Three Acres. It was the first time for some, so we went through the method which is the same for all types of judging. Juniors’ first place was Nathan Greenwood and seniors’ first place was Matthew Carhart. Haworth artist Chris McCarthy has opened up her internet art gallery for local visual artists. She charges minimal expenses to cover costs offering a massive saving by not running a traditional gallery in a building. She offers global circulation.
