AN exhibition of Silsden's Story In The Great War, first shown at the town hall in August, will get a second showing in the town during Remembrance weekend.

The professionally designed banners will be on display at a coffee morning, organised by the Silsden Local History Society, in the town hall on Saturday, November 8.

The exhibition has recently been on show at Bradford Mechanics Institute following an invitation by the city's World War One Group, and chairman Patricia Restorick described the display as "inspirational".

She said the many visitors had been greatly moved by the stories of village life during the 1914-1918 years.

Silsden history group chairman David Mason said he had received numerous requests for a repeat showing in the town.

"A number of local people were away on holiday in August and were very sorry to miss the event," said Mr Mason. "This will be an opportunity for some people to see it for the first time and for others to take a more studied second look."

And, later in the day, a small selection from the exhibition will be transported to the sports club where Silsden AFC are hosting a remembrance ceremony and commemorative football match.

Meanwhile Keighley Film Society is looking at making a film of The Path Across The Heather, the play set in Silsden during World War One, which was staged to packed audiences at the town hall in August.

The work of local writer Cathy Liddle, the production combined poetry, music, readings and drama to tell a story of love, endurance and loss. The cast was entirely local.

The film society believes that the play provides excellent material for a serious study of a community responding to the pressures and challenges of war.

A producer has been appointed and talks will begin soon on the practicalities of filming.
