A PETITION has been launched calling for a new council incorporating. Crossflatts and Micklethwaite.
The new Bingley town council would also include Cottingley, Eldwick and Gilstead as well as the centre.
The petition was launched last week at a public meeting at Bingley Arts Centre attended by around 140 people.
Already signed by nearly 200 people, the petition organised by Bingley Community Council Group (BCCG), which is campaigning for an independent body to cover the area.
Ros Dawson, who chairs BCCG, said they would be holding further meetings across the area.
She said: “If Bingley had a Town Council we would have a voice.
"By law we would also have to be consulted about many issues by Bradford Council and having a town council would enable Bradford to consult us regularly as a community - which it cannot do at present,"
Consultation meetings have been held up some of the villages this week.
