Haworth West Lane Baptist Amateur Operatic Company stage their annual Gilbert and Sullivan week from November 17 to 22. This year is the 50th anniversary double bill with HMS Pinafore and Trial by Jury. Rehearsals are well under way with Michael Lofthouse producing and Pamela Dimbleby directing the music. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children, with £8 tickets for the over-60s on the Monday and Saturday matinée. Gerry and the Hatricks is a big swing and jazz band, 17 strong, formed in Keighley last year by John Large. We gave our very first concert in Oakworth on October 4 with vocalist Michaela Smith. So successful was that, our next concert will be at Haworth Parish Church at 7.30pm on November 14. Tickets £6 (to include refreshments). Haworth, Oxenhope, Lees & Crossroads Gardeners and Allotment holders Association will be holding its annual meeting at the Haworth Parkside Social Club in Butt Lane at 7.30pm on November 13.

The Welcome Project is a self-help group that meets at the Wuthering Heights in Stanbury on Mondays from 1pm to 3pm and the Parkside Social Club from 6pm to 8pm. Take your own tablet, laptop or phone, though the project does have some laptops available. Call 01535 665258 or 647675.

Worth Valley Young Farmer’s Club’s meeting this week was a movie night kindly hosted by The Three Acres. We all watched The Lego Movie. It’s the time of year for public speaking and sports again, so Young Farmers will start practising for that again. Visit worthvalley.org for details.

Haworth Brass Band is still seeking brass and percussion players to upgrade the band from 14 players up to a full band of 26. Good instruments are available on loan. The band rehearses above Keighley Civic Centre every Monday evening at 7.45pm. Use the back entrance in Scott Street. Worth Valley First Responders are volunteers trained by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, who respond to local emergency calls. Their aim is to assist and treat people who need help from the ambulance service until their care can be handed over to an ambulance crew. More responders are needed now. Haworth and Worth Valley Rotary Club meets at its new venue, Newsholme Manor, for a meal on Tuesdays at 7.30pm for 8pm. They have moved from the Old Silent at Stanbury. They usually have a guest speaker. The Rotarians have recently been running a ‘contact the elderly’ project. This is to invite the elderly to afternoon teas once a month on a Sunday afternoon. Organiser, Hilary Wharton, is seeking some volunteer drivers to help. Call 01535 647531. They would only be required three or four times a year to drive, mainly in the Haworth area.
