ONE hundred years after the start of the First World War, a plaque in tribute to the men from Glusburn and Cross Hills, who died in the conflict, is to be unveiled.
It carries 57 names and is the first memorial to the men in the village. The research was carried out by David Birks, retired South Craven School deputy head teacher.
The memorial project has been spearheaded by Glusburn and Cross Hills Parish Council and the unveiling ceremony will take place on Tuesday, November 11, at 10.30am, off Park Street, in a garden gifted by Craven Council.
Guests of honour will be Sir Edward Horsfall, Baronet of Hayfield, representing the Horsfall family, who were mill owners and great benefactors to the village.
The parish council is especially grateful to those companies, organisations and individuals who have contributed to the completion of the memorial, including JN Bentleys of Skipton and JC Cowgill Grounds Maintenance.
