THE BRONTË Blues Club celebrates its ‘centenary’ on November 7 with its 100th concert.

The club was formed only seven years ago but has already hosted 99 gigs at Laycock Village Hall.

The latest concert will feature Bronte Blues favourite Ian Siegal and Mississippi-born singer-songwriter Jimbo Mathus.

The appearance, which kicks off the pair’s Roots to the Core tour, is expected to attract blues fans from across the UK.

Club spokesman Maggie Marsden said that for devotees of blues and Americana, Ian Siegal needed no introduction.

She said: “He’s the seven-times British Blues Awards winner, the European Blues Awards winner, and US Blues Music Awards nominee.

“He’s sung with the prestigious ONJ orchestra in Paris, toured in 25 countries, and his latest CD is a BBC recording made at the Royal Albert Hall.”

Ian first met Jimbo in 2013 when he dropped by the Zebra Ranch studio in Coldwater Mississippi to contribute some banjo and mandolin parts for one of Jimbo’s recordings. The two discovered a shared passion for the same music.

Maggie said that since 2007 the Brontë Blues Club had fulfilled its original promise to bring the best blues performers from across the world to Laycock.

She said: “Over half the acts that have appeared since have come from outside the UK underlining its success as a truly international venue.”

The season will continue with performers like Earl Thomas, Paddy Milner and Hideaway Bridges.

Tickets for the November 17 cost £15. Visit bronteblues.com or the Turkey Inn, Goose Eye, or call 07773 637335, to book tickets.
