KEIGHLEY Blues Club bosses are confident that Guy Tortora will be a success with the punters next week.

They’re allowing members and non-members alike to pay however much they want to see the American singer and slide guitarist’s concert.

Blues fans can even watch the performance, on November 7 at the Cougar Park Hall of Fame, for no charge whatsoever.

A spokesman said: “All anyone has to do is email or phone us, then say how much they want to pay and how many tickets they want.

“The tickets will be reserved for them to collect the gig, in exchange for the amount pledged!”

Guy Tortora is performing in Keighley as part of the club’s 10th anniversary season.

He was raised in Pasadena, California, but is currently based in London, from where he has forged a unique niche in Europe’s blues and roots scene, regularly playing clubs, theatres and festivals.

He plays music loosely termed as ‘Americana’, with a particular strength for writing well-constructed original songs.

He also adopts music that originated in the USA, blues, jazz, folk and roots, interpreting the work of other writers with depth and feeling.

Guy’s first two solo albums received a warm welcome from blues ‘n’ roots reviewers, and he released a third album in 2008 to great acclaim.

A spokesman said: “When travelling light, Guy performs in stripped down acoustic mode either on his own, or accompanied by bass or keyboards.

“At many UK gigs he appears with the Guy Tortora Band, his own four-piece outfit of accomplished musicians from the UK and Europe.

“With this band he has performed live with artists as diverse as Eric Clapton, Pee Wee Ellis, John Cleary and Eric Bibb. He has gigged across North America and much of Europe. “

Guy is described as an accomplished guitar player and a distinctive songwriter.

The spokesman added: “On both acoustic and electric guitars he plays finger style, and is a fine bottleneck and slide player.

“His playing is not the flashy guitar-slinger style beloved of blues rockers everywhere, but understated, and leaves room for the songs to make an impact.”
