SILSDEN children are paying their own poignant tribute to the town's fallen heroes.

Pupils from Hothfield Junior School have been learning about the Silsden men who gave their lives during the First World War.

They have produced special posters about each of those listed on the war memorial, and hope that current-day occupants of the homes where the soldiers once lived will display the information in their windows during the Remembrance weekend.

The youngsters collated the details using the website, Craven’s Part in the Great War, and with help from Silsden History Group.

Becky Carter, Hothfield School’s history co-ordinator, said: "The children have really enjoyed finding out about the soldiers and are fascinated by their stories.

"What has made it especially poignant is realising how they live in the same houses as those who died – it literally brings the stories home to them."

Eighteen story boards created by the history group, featuring the fallen soldiers, will be on display at Silsden Town Hall on November 8.
