UNFORTUNAT ELY Keighley's Lund Park has been thrust into the public spotlight for all the wrong reasons in recent weeks.

Volunteers have done fantastic work over the past few years to bring the community together, through events and activities at the site.

Even now, plans are being made for a lantern parade and next week a Green Dog Walkers scheme will be promoted there.

It is a crying shame that such worthwhile and commendable efforts to improve the area for its residents and provide fun activities are being eroded.

But what we can't do is bury our head in the sand and pretend everything's rosy.

The stark reality is that something needs to be done so that all members of the community can go about their daily lives without fearing for their safety.

So it is good news indeed that action has already been initiated to tackle the issue.

Keighley Town Council this week agreed to fund a CCTV camera for the park, district councillors have pledged to clamp down on anti-social behaviour and a public petition for the return of park wardens is gaining momentum.

These measures are an excellent starting point.

And the reaction of the community to what has been happening in their own backyard is a clear indicator that the vast majority of people who live close to and use Lund Park care enough to want something done.

With that strength of spirit and resolve, 'people power' could and should win the day.
