THIS YEAR’S Poppy Appeal in Keighley has already raised more than £25,000.
Tommy Thompson, who organises the appeal for the Royal British Legion, hopes the final total will be close to last year’s record £35,379.
Speaking after the Remembrance Day parade, he said: “The appeal is going quite well – we’ve banked around £26,000 already.”
The organisers wanted to thank Sainsburys' for their support with the appeal, and Costa Coffee who supplied cadets with cold drinks on Saturday as they sold poppies in Keighley town centre.
In the run-up to Remembrance Sunday the Royal British Legion had a ‘poppy shop’ in the Airedale Shopping Centre.
