COMMUNITY centres in Keighley and across the district are facing an uncertain future as more Bradford Council funding cuts bite.

Many centres are poised to lose funds in a shake-up designed to spread money more evenly across the Bradford district in the next financial year.

Cuts to the funding pot, called community development grants, are due to hit Keighley – as well as Bradford East and Shipley – in the coming weeks.

Labour-run Bradford Council has divided up the pot, valued at a total of £405,000, into five parts, and asked the district's five area committees to decide how to allocate the cash in their own areas.

The money was divided up according to each area's need, which was calculated by looking at a number of measures such as the population size and the number of children in poverty.

Keighley’s pot has shrunk from £72,612 to £62,000.
