NUMBERS of motorbikers using Flappit Quarry for illegal riding has decreased following police action, but officers are still receiving complaints about the problem.

As a result they are continuing patrols in the area near Cullingworth and spoke to bikers on two consecutive days at the start of the month.

They were as a direct result of calls to police from residents in the area.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "The number of bikes and quads using this piece of land for recreational off road biking has decreased over the last couple of months since we’ve been able to attend more frequently.

"We’re looking for the riders who turn up without transport and have no helmets, etc.

"Clearly this indicates that they’re prepared to ride on the road to the site without number plates, correct documents or even a driving licence.

"For the other serious bikers we find on there who have attended in a van, then they are usually advised to leave and informed that it’s private land."

Those who do return will be dealt with through section 59 of the Police Reform Act, and could have their vehicles seized.
