The Methodist Church has a coffee morning each day from Tuesday to Friday – Chatterbox from 9am to noon Tuesday to Thursday to meet, eat, drink and chat, and the original Friday coffee morning between 9.30am and 11.30am.

Disco Zumba is held at the town hall on Monday at 8.30pm and on Thursday from 6.15pm to 7.15pm. Wear suitable clothes and take water. All abilities welcome; just turn up on the night. See the facebook page for details.

Donations of tinned and non-perishable foodstuffs for food banks will be gratefully received at our three churches, any Sunday morning, and at Silsden Methodists’ refreshment area Tuesday to Friday, between 9.30am and 11.30am.

Silsden Library is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 10am and 4pm and then on Saturday from 9.30am to 4pm. Call 01535 618155 for further details and special events. Call in for a browse of fiction, non-fiction, CDs, DVDs, audio books and free internet usage. If you haven’t tried the internet before there are free taster sessions. Take along some ID with a current address to be registered as a member.

A diary has been placed in Silsden Library for organisations to record the dates of any special events they are running. This is particularly relevant to coffee mornings, in order to avoid a number of them being held on the same day. Just ask at the library desk and you will be given the diary to check dates and make your own entry.

Take One youth drama group meets in the Gloucester Avenue community centre every Wednesday from 5.30pm to 7pm. Meet and make friends while learning some great stage skills and get the chance to perform on stage. Church services take place each week on Sundays: St James’ Church Traditional (Book of Common Prayer) Communion Service, 8.30am, Parish Communion with children’s workshop and creche, 10.30am; Methodist Church Family Worship, 10.30am, Evening Service 6pm; Our Lady of Mount Carmel Holy Communion, 9.30am; Shoppers Service at the Methodist Church, 20 minutes on a Friday, from 10.30am for all denominations.

1st Silsden is a thriving Scout group based at St James’ Church and meets on Friday evenings. The group currently consists of Beavers, aged 6-8, Cubs (eight to ten) and Scouts (ten to14), each holding separate meetings alongside activity days and camps throughout the year. Slimming groups in Silsden include Slimming World on Tuesdays, with meetings at the town hall at 9.30am and St James’ Church at 5pm and 7pm. Call 07935 417214.

Seidokan karate groups run on Monday and Wednesday for all ages, from 6pm to 8pm. Call in for more information or call 01535 656578. These are being held at the Youth Centre in Elliott Street for the time being.

The Proms on the Farm team has two events this weekend. A nostalgic evening with music from the 40s and 50s takes place at the Sunny Bank Social Club at 8pm tomorrow. And Halifax Gilbert & Sullivan Society will perform the concert version of the Pirates of Penzance at Silsden Methodist Church at 2.30pm on Saturday.
