A WORTH Valley charity has been unsuccessful in its bid to acquire cash to fund a pioneering initiative for people with disabilities.

Haworth Riding for the Disabled made it to the finals of the People’s Millions, a partnership between the Big Lottery Fund and ITV.

On Monday (Nov 24) the group went head-to-head in a public phone vote against a rival project, submitted by Chellow Heights Special School in Bradford.

Haworth RDA had been seeking £38,545 to provide free riding holidays for people with disabilities.

However, despite a drive by Haworth RDA to drum up support for its project Chellow Heights won the phone vote.

The riding group's spokesman, Jackie Butterfield, said the defeat was disappointing, but added that she knew Chellow Heights would spend the money well.

"I've sent them a message of congratulation," she said. "I feel sorry for all the people who did vote for us, but we just have to carry on and be positive."
