PREGNANT Keighley women are being urged by health chiefs to get a flu jab to protect themselves and their unborn child.

"Because their immune system is lower pregnant women are more prone to complications from flu that can cause serious illness for both mother and baby," said Dr Yasmin Khan, the region's deputy medical director for NHS England.

"Having the free vaccination reduces the chances of getting flu, which in turn means the risk of these complications is much reduced.

"The flu vaccine can be used safely at any stage in pregnancy."
