POLICE are continuing to investigate vandalism to the power supply box of Haworth's new performing arts bandstand.

The update was delivered by Police Community Support Officer Tracy Metcalfe at a meeting of Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council on Monday. (Nov 24)

She said officers had not yet identified the graffiti tags scrawled on the box.

Responding to councillors' traffic safety concerns she said officers had given warnings to drivers parking on the pavement outside the Spar store, in Station Road.

She added that a speed watch operation had been conducted in West Lane, though only three of the 100 vehicles monitored had been breaking the speed limit.

Acting parish council chairman, Coun Angel Kershaw said she had witnessed many motorists driving through the area while on their mobile phones.

"I've seen a few doing this at the roundabout in Cross Roads," she added. "That would be a good place to catch drivers on mobiles."

PCSO Metcalfe said officers were aware of the problem, but warned it was not easy to have personnel in the right locations at the right times to enforce the rules.

Alerting councillors to theft-related trends in the Worth Valley she said Land Rovers continue to be targeted. She said one of these vehicles had its headlights stolen, while another had its doors taken.
