NO ONE could argue against a desire to preserve our historic buildings.
The last thing anybody wants is to see architecturally important or attractive structures stood empty, slowly falling into a state of disrepair.
But you have to seriously question the thinking of Keighley Town Council.
With all the furore surrounding its handling of the civic centre project, and the debt landed in the laps of precept payers due to massive losses incurred, it is difficult to believe members are already looking towards taking on another ‘project’.
Has nothing been learned?
Granted, the scale of the Utley Cemetery Chapel proposal may be on a somewhatsmaller scale from buying the former police station/courthouse, but the fact remains the upkeep of the old chapel will cost money... ratepayers’ money.
