A DECISION on whether to authorise applications to register sites in Oxenhope as Community Assets has been deferred.

Oxenhope parish councillors had been due to reach a decision relating to Oxenhope's recreation ground, community centre, cricket ground, Rose Garden and Millennium Green at their meeting last Wednesday. (Dec 10)

However, they agreed to wait until the applications have been prepared by council chairman Neal Cameron and brought before the next monthly meeting.

A parish council's ability to have a building or site declared a community asset forms part of the Government's 2011 Localism Act. It gives parish councils' a right to be consulted in the event of a designated property being sold off.

Last week's Oxenhope Council meeting accepted a proposal to go ahead with a separate application to register the duck pond, next to Station Road, as a community asset.

Responding to concerns voiced by Coun Reg Hindley, Coun Penny Cusdin said if the pond is registered, this does not transfer liability to the parish council in the event of anyone suffering an accident there.
