A PAIR of Keighley school teachers and one senior pupil are back from an "unforgettable" trip to Indonesia.

History teacher Samantha Bennett, maths teacher Jonathan Smith and year 13 student Insha Ismail, all of Holy Family Catholic School, spent 12 days visiting the country.

Their October trip was part of a link between Holy Family and the Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School. The next academic year will mark the 10th anniversary of this partnership link, which was originally announced by the then British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The Keighley teachers taught Indonesian pupils who were studying English and introduced them to aspects of British culture, fashion, language and sport.

Mr Smith said: "It was eye-opening to say the least, not what I was expecting. We have students who follow Islam here in Keighley, and I've been to Arab Islamic countries. But even though people are Muslim in Indonesia it was completely different. It was like seeing an entirely different culture."

Miss Bennett said: "The students there were so well motivated. They didn't require any kind of task setting by their teachers.

"Insha spent most of her time with them. She kept coming back and saying she'd had the most amazing day."
