Yet again Oakworth Village Society excelled themselves with the annual Christmas fair, which was opened by Oakworth gala queen and was again a great success, with lots of stalls raising money for their various groups, and Santa in his grotto welcoming an increased number of little visitors. Delicious refreshments were served by Ingrow Brownie and Guide leaders raising money for their funds.

There was a colouring competition which, in some age groups, was a little less popular than usual, although entries in other age groups compensated. Winners of this competition were Olivia Ferrey, Rose Felton, Neave Lewis, Ava-Marie Walton, George Felton, Isabel Walton, Harvey Tait, Holly Wade, Jaime Coffey, Peter Harris, Joseph Cofier and Bethany Baldwin.

The KYDZ theatre group held a raffle and prizes were all collected on the day. The Village Society also held a raffle with one prize unclaimed, so if the holder of ticket number 566 contacts Janet on 01535 642625, she will ensure they receive their prize. Well done Oakworth – yet another successful event.

Tewitt Lane memorial service at 2pm on January 4 commemorates the death of six Canadian airmen, whose plane crashed there in the Second World War. This is a brief ceremony with hymns, prayers and a two-minute silence marked by bugle calls, and there is usually a high-ranking Canadian officer in attendance as a mark of respect for the brave men who gave their lives in defence of our freedom.
