ELECTRIC car users will be be able to charge their vehicles in the centre of Keighley, thanks to a joint Keighley Town Council, Bradford Council and Government venture.

Watch and transport committee chairman coun Michael Westerman, said: “With the correct promotion, this new facility will also enable out-of-town users to visit Keighley without fear of running out of electric charge. This can only be good for the business economy of the town."

He explained that his committee is providing £2,500 to boost the £7,500 government grant to set up the charging point. The device will be available to motorists free of charge for an introductory period.

A Bradford Council spokesman said: “A network of electric vehicle charge points has been developed with charge points in Bradford, Keighley and Baildon. The network will enable drivers of cleaner, low emission vehicles to recharge in our town centres."
