UKIP members have lashed out at Keighley councillor Khadim Hussain for publishing a video on his Facebook page that suggested the Paris terrorist shootings were a hoax.

But Cllr Hussain has angrily hit back saying the offensive video, which appeared on his social website page on Monday, was removed the moment he realised it was not a genuine news item from the BBC.

And he also accused Ukip of trying to score cheap political points.

Ukip Bradford said it was horrified an elected district councillor had posted the bogus video, entitled ‘BBC Admits Paris Shooting Fake’, on his Facebook page Ukip chairman, Jason Smith, said: “While it is Mr Hussain’s right to believe in wild conspiracy theories, I personally find this totally disrespectful just a day after France’s day of mourning.

“I believe our leader, Nigel Farage, was right when he suggested we have a fifth column in the UK that is utterly opposed to our values. It seems that fifth column may well include at least one Bradford Labour councillor.”

Mr Smith called on Labour leader, Cllr David Green, to “discipline his councillor”.

But Cllr Hussain dismissed Ukip's claims as “total and utter nonsense”.

He said: “I mistakenly put the false video on my Facebook page, and as soon as it was pointed out as a fake, I deleted it immediately.

“It does show how careful you have to be with the Internet.

“I deplore the people responsible for making the video – people’s feelings should not be played with like this.

“I believe totally in British values, and what Ukip is suggesting is utterly despicable and just cheap political point-scoring.”
