SIX years ago, residents of Summerhill Drive and Summerhill Avenue in Steeton were forced by Bradford Council to have the named streets adopted, paid for by householders.

Since the streets were made up (we have never been officially told the streets have been adopted), they have become extra parking for the railway station.

On two separate occasions, Councillor Andrew Mallinson said he would visit us – before and during construction of the roads – and offer advice. Cllr Mallinson never turned, probably as he was on the committee that sanctioned the adoption.

The police have been called on numerous occasions to get vehicles moved. Officers advised us to contact Brad Council, which we did, to get residential parking only. The reply we got from the council was because we had driveways, it could not issue the notice (notices have been issued in Skipton Road, Steeton, and the houses all have driveways).

A parish councillor was told of our plight. She brought the subject of our drives being blocked up at a parish meeting, but was told to “tell them to get smaller cars”!

We hope the necessary authorities deal with the parking situation at the station in a more professional manner than we experienced – Railway station’s car park survey (Keighley News, January 8).
