A VIKING invaded the Worth Valley last week – but he wasn’t in the mood for pillaging.
Wayland was a peaceful visitor to the Pennines as he spent a day at Lees Primary School.
A school spokesman said Wayland chatted with Year Three pupils and showed them how the Norsemen lived.
She said: “The children have been learning about the Viking way and had a fun-filled day which brought their studies to life.
“They shared their knowledge of Viking raids and longboats and had the opportunity to dress as warriors and learn how to fight using a spear as part of a shield wall.
“They also took part in a range of craft activities including making oil burners and board games.”
Wayland’s visit was part of a programme of living history facilities provided by the Danelaw Centre for Living History in York.
In the past children from Lees Primary School have visited the Danelaw Centre, where children can spend a day living as Vikings in a recreated village.
