A SOUTH Craven school pupil is hoping his many hours of practice will bring him triumph when he represents Yorkshire at pool next month. (February)

14-year-old Louis Kerrigan will compete for his county in a regional contest. He will play for a full weekend at Great Yarmouth, with the winners going through to the national finals later.

A spokesman for South Craven said: "Louis's father played for England in his younger days and he taught Louis how to play two years ago. Louis is now within touching distance of being selected for England.

"As well as the three hours practice a day he puts in, Louis also plays and competes at Pilkys pool club in Keighley on Monday nights.

"Last year, as one of the top six in Yorkshire, he was invited to attend trials for the England squad. He made it through to the last 16 from a group of 84, but just missed out on getting into the last eight. "However, coaches were impressed by his ability and noted that as the youngest competitor, at only 14, he has another four years to compete for a place."
