Keighley News: Daniel Humphris and Johnny Atherton raise money for Cancer Research UK Daniel Humphris and Johnny Atherton raise money for Cancer Research UK Johnny Atherton and Daniel Humphris, of Kildwick Primary School, raised the money by going vegetarian for a month.

They created posters to advertise the idea and, with the support of their headteacher, Dawn Cooksey, gained sponsorship for the activity.

Mrs Cooksey said: “As a school we regularly support charities through local and national fundraising events. We are also keen to encourage the children to think of their own ideas to support charities which may have a more personal meaning to them.

"Daniel and Johnny came to say that they would like to be sponsored to be vegetarians for a month and raise money for Cancer Research UK. We fully supported them and are very proud of Daniel and Johnny's achievement Ten-year-old Johnny said: “I wanted to raise money because my Grandma is going through chemotherapy and I want the treatment to make her better. More research will make the treatment better.”

And, Daniel, also ten, added:"I wanted to do it because my Granddad had cancer and it was something different and challenging."

Andy Jackson, Bradford fundraising team coordinator, for Cancer Research UK, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Kildwick Primary School supported Johnny and Daniel in their fundraising. It’s a very unique way to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

“Cancer Research UK has made enormous progress in the fight against cancer and continues to do so. However, we have only been able to do this thanks to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and supporters without whom we would be unable to fund our vital research.”
