NEWSHOUNDS from Parkside School have been selected to broadcast from the BBC’s headquarters.
Young reporters from the Cullingworth school will be at BBC Broadcasting House in London on this year’s News Day.
The BBC organises News Day as part of its School Report campaign to involve secondary school students in journalism.
The Parkside team had a successful practice day last week (February 10) when they visited local radio station Drystone Radio to broadcast live for an hour.
The broadcast included an interview with a city official in Iowa in the USA.
Pictures from the Drystone visit are available on the School Report section of the BBC website.
The reporters were Savannah Dodsworth, Holly Parker, Jodie Jennison, Jasmine Colgan, Savannah Tiler, Charlotte Denby, Jake Taglione, Kelsey Thompson, Kady Singh, Tom Keighley and Tom Dibb.
BBC News School Report gives 11 to 16 year-old students a chance to make their own news reports for a real audience, using specially-provided lesson plans and materials.
News Day, on March 19, will see young reporters around the country simultaneously create video, audio and text-based news reports.
More than 1,000 schools across the UK took part in last year’s event.
