A KEIGHLEY project that helps steer teenagers away from crime and violence has been showcased by Bradford’s biggest social landlord.

Your Sporting Chance is one of 11 projects across the district that last year received funding from the charitable arm of housing organisation Incommunities.

The Incommunities Foundation held a showcase event on Monday to let board members see how their money had been spent.

Representatives from each of the projects, which will help disadvantaged young people, gave presentations about their work.

Your Sporting Chance, run by Keighley Cougars, involves professional rugby players acting as mentors for young people who are ‘on the margins’ and not in school or work.

Several of the other projects work across the district, including Keighley, such as the talent contest Bradfactor, the Holiday Play and Activity Scheme and business advice service Open Field.

Alison Herbert, interim chairman of the Incommunities Foundation, said: “All the projects are different but share a common goal to empower and encourage our younger generation to grow and reach their potential.”

Guest and Keighley councillor Jan Smithies, said: “The event showcased some great young people and employment initiatives.”
