NEARLY £900,000 of lottery cash went to Keighley -district projects last year, new figures show.

Across the area, 21 grants were awarded to causes ranging from arts and heritage schemes to community groups.

Beneficiaries included St James' Parish Church at Cross Roads, which received £109,600 for roof and window repairs.

Holy Family School, in Keighley, was given £9,825 to stage a variety of sports, health, dance and drama activities for youngsters at lunchtimes, after school and during holidays.

And Asian Alive was granted £5,500 to hold Indian classical and Bollywood dance sessions in the community.

Now Keighley projects could be in the running for national recognition.

Nominations are being sought for this year's lottery awards.

"The awards offer a chance to celebrate the fantastic work of lottery-funded projects so if you know of a great scheme that deserves to shine then please nominate it," said a spokesman.

There are seven categories – sport, heritage, arts, environment, health, education and voluntary/charity.

Winners will each receive a £2,000 cash prize and will feature in a star-studded ceremony on BBC1 later this year.

Visit lotterygoodcauses.org.uk or call 0207 293 3599 for further details and to nominate a project.

The deadline is March 25.
