TEENAGERS from Keighley are flying high after reaching the finals of the Air Cadet Organisation’s most prestigious award.

The 2431 (Keighley) Squadron had been chosen to represent the region in the national competition to win the Lees Trophy.

The cadets, who were chosen from 20 squadrons in the Central and East Wing, will next month discover whether they had beaten winners in the UK’s six other regions.

The squadrons are assessed on their overall effectiveness, including leadership and how well cadets are doing in a range of activities, during spot inspections.

Local young people can sample some of those activities on Monday when the squadron holds an open night at its headquarters in the Drill Hall on Lawkholme Lane, Keighley.

Regular activities include sports, shooting, flying, outdoor adventure training included the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, and annual camps.

Boys and girls and their parents are welcome to go along to the open night from 7pm. Call 01535 606010 for further information.
