A CROSS Roads-based cat and kitten welfare charity has revealed the cost of its successful effort to save a rare cat.
Yorkshire Cat Rescue has to cover a huge vet bill after stepping in to care for Elsa, a ragdoll cat who had previously been used for breeding.
Five-year-old Elsa had an infection which would have soon proved lethal if left untreated. She needed to have her entire womb removed and still suffers from side-effects.
Charity volunteer, Stacie Murphy, said: “She has had a lot of problems since the surgery and it looks like she’s going to need prescription food for the rest of her life.
"Yorkshire Cat Rescue didn’t hesitate to pay for the necessary treatments and the special food Elsa now needs.
"Unfortunately, the bill has reached £1,000 which no adoption fee will come anywhere near covering."
Elsa is still looking for a new home with someone who can look past her medical issues and will not mind maintaining her strict diet. The bills for her medical condition will be covered by Yorkshire Cat Rescue. Contact the charity on 01535 647184 for details on how to adopt Elsa.
