MEMBERS of a Keighley neighbourhood friends group have got together again to spruce up a previously neglected part of the town.

They teamed up last weekend (Feb 21 and 22) to clean up the western section of Damems Lane, near the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Damems Railway Station.

Friends of Damems West spokesman Carol Owlett thanked all those who took part.

She said friends members enjoyed good weather on the Saturday, though had to curtail their activities on Sunday due to rain.

She paid tribute to Ben Guest and his team for offering their services free of charge last Saturday to lay down new surfacing for a footpath, and local butcher Chris Herd who donated pies to everyone who participated.

She also thanked the businesses who donated prizes for a raffle.

"We cut back a lot of old brambles at the nature trail on the Saturday and put it all in piles to be burned the following day," she said.

"We did try and burn it off on the Sunday, but it was too wet. We still turned out though because we'd said we'd be there that day and didn't want to let anyone down."

She added the group would be staging further clean-up days and activities over the summer. Visit the Friends of Damems West Facebook page for more details.
