JUST got round to reading the article on congested roads –Traffic-choked roads revealed (Keighley News, February 26).
Average speed down to 12mph in Bradford Road during the morning rush hour. Who are they trying to kid? On the few occasions I am forced to go out at that time I would have thought walking pace is closer to the truth.
Traffic in Skipton Road is also slow, but surely not as slow, so does the town councillor for Oakworth have a neighbourhood axe to grind?
I have thought for a long time it is a mistake to route traffic heading from Skipton to Halifax round the houses rather than keeping it on the A629, but that judgement was based on the way in which traffic aiming for Hard Ings Road builds up on the inside lane of the dual carriageway, leading to those in a hurry sneakily taking the outside lane and, if baulked, a trip round the roundabout to gain an unfair advantage over those who follow the road signs.
Indeed, one friend of mine believes it is quicker at certain times to get to Cox’s roundabout (does anyone else call it that these days?) via Skipton Road and Cavendish Street rather than Hard Ings.
