DOZENS of drivers were caught speeding along Oakworth Road during the first operation by the Keighley West Community Speedwatch Group.
In just half an hour the volunteers saw about 10 motorists driving at 40mph or more in the 30mph zone.
Using speed guns they clocked many more vehicles driving at more than 35mph at the notorious speeding hotspot in Bogthorn.
The operation involved seven group members, who live in the Bogthorn, Fell Lane and Wheathead Lane areas, working with ward councillor Adrian Farley and PCSO Chris Wardle.
Cllr Farley was pleased with the success of the fledgling group’s first Speedwatch.
He said: “The idea is to cover the whole ward. We plan to do a Speedwatch in Fell Lane in a couple of weeks then move to Laycock.”
Cllr Farley said the speeding drivers would be sent a warning letter by West Yorkshire Police, and anyone caught again would receive a fixed penalty notice.
