A KEIGHLEY animal welfare group set up last June has already found new homes for 60 dogs.

Aireworth Dogs In Need has now launched a new appeal for foster and adoption homes to meet increasing demand for places.

A spokesman for the group said a large number of local dogs were seeking a ‘forever home’

while others needed short-term foster care.

She said the group wanted to help people who were going to hospital or respite care and had nobody to look after their dog.

She said: “We will try our best to find a suitable loving home to love and care for your dog so they don't have to worry.

“Without our dedicated team of volunteers and foster carers this would not be possible.”

Aireworth Dogs In Need is run by Nicola Garner, Caroline Spence and Jane Hudson, who hope to gain charitable status.

In their first three months they saved 10 dogs who were at risk of being put down.

They work with dog wardens and council kennels, which may put down stray dogs as soon as seven days after they have been found.
