A KEIGHLEY community centre has refurbished its kitchen with cash help from the Craven Trust.

The £750 grant has paid for items including replacement cabinets and drawers at the Highfield Community Centre.

The kitchen has not been upgraded since the Drewry Road building was constructed about 10 years ago.

It is used on a daily basis by a host of groups that meet in the centre with activities ranging from simple refreshments to healthy cooking sessions.

Centre worker Fazeela Hanif said “The kitchen was getting a bit run down.

“It’s still in good condition but some the cabinets and surfaces needed replacing and we wanted to make sure the kitchen met hygiene standards.”

In the past the kitchen has won a five-star rating from Bradford Council environmental health inspectors.

The Craven Trust also gave £600 to the British Red Cross to buy wheelchairs and£1,000 for toilet refurbishments at St Stephen’s Church Hall in Steeton.
