THE Labour parliamentary candidate for Keighley has said his party can make a positive difference to Keighley Town Council.
11 candidates running on a Labour ticket have announced their intention to join the council in May, the first time that the party has made a concerted effort to gain representatives on the town council.
Up till now, most members of the council have been independent, though a small number have openly represented parties such as the Liberal Democrats or the UK Independence Party.
Labour parliamentary candidate John Grogan this week said: "Labour has decided to stand some candidates for the town council for the first time following the example of UKIP and the Liberal Democrats.
"I feel our team has a contribution to make to getting the council back on to an even keel after recent difficulties.
"If I am elected as MP for Keighley I will want to work with town and district councillors from all parties.
"I will not be wasting time talking about changing council boundaries, which would be a very expensive undertaking."
