THE team arranging next month's Haworth 1940s Weekend have announced that an aircraft which formed a vital part of the Allied war effort will feature in the event.

Organisers have said that the Dakota ZA947 is due to conduct the flypast over the village on Sunday May 17 at 10:30am.

This will take place shortly before the remembrance service, which starts in Haworth Central Park at 10:45am.

A spokesman for the weekend stressed that the flypast would depend on weather conditions on the day, but offered her thanks to the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight which will be responsible for the aerial display.

This year's 1940s weekend is celebrating 70 years since the Allied victory in the Second World War in Europe.

The three-day event will raise cash for the Soldiers, Sailors & Airmen's Families Association and will include vehicle displays, wartime re-enactments, stalls selling a huge variety of refreshments and memorabilia and nostalgic music from the war years.

The 2015 event's main sponsor is Keighley-based company The Green Deal Factory Ltd.
