FIVE bands put on a show for music lovers in Haworth as part of an ongoing campaign to save public services in the village.

A line-up including Justin Sullivan and Dean White from New Model Army, Skeletal Family, Indianic, Foxes Faux and soloist Rosa Sargent played in Haworth Village Hall and Community Hub, formerly known as Haworth Community Centre.

Saturday’s Butt Lane benefit gig was organised by villager resident John Lambert to raise funds for Haworth and Worth Valley Fire Station, as well as the hub.

The fire station is currently mothballed after being closed down at the end of last year as part of cost-cutting measures.

And the hub faces an uncertain future after its owner, Bradford Council, revealed it formed part of a review of the council’s assets.

Mr Lambert said about 120 people attended the gig.

“It was a good night and the performances were brilliant,” he added. “One man donated a load of samosas and Bingley Brewery, Harrogate Brewery and the Kings Arms Pub are donating a percentage of their takings from the night. Bev Dickinson at the community centre was really helpful and I’m hoping to organise more events like this.”

Bradford Council has applied for a licence to provide entertainment and late night refreshments at the hub.

The bid was submitted earlier this month covering Monday to Thursday from 11am to 11pm, Friday from 11am to midnight and Saturday from midnight to 2am. The licence would also permit regulated entertainment and refreshments between 11am and midnight on Saturdays, midnight and 2am on Sundays and 11am and 10.30pm on Sundays.
