A KEIGHLEY funeral directors has won a coveted honour.

David Gallagher took the top accolade in its category at the Yorkshire & East Lancashire Funeral Planner of the Year awards.

In addition to the award, the firm received a framed certificate and assistance with advertising and a staff celebration.

And the Woodland Trust has dedicated trees, which will be planted locally in recognition of the company's achievement.

David and Adele Gallagher travelled to Windsor for the presentation ceremony, the biggest gathering of independent funeral directors in the UK.

"We were delighted to accept the award on behalf of our staff and the clients who place their trust within us and we proudly returned it to Yorkshire!" said Mr Gallagher.

"Our business was established in 1993 and was assisted by the Prince's Trust, without whose support our achievements would not have been possible."

The awards scheme was organised by funeral plan provider Golden Charter.

Chief executive, Ronnie Wayte, said the venture – now in its 22nd year – was more competitive than ever.

"This award is well-earned proof that David Gallagher Funeral Directors has reached a remarkable standard," he added.
