AT least 20 local and national businesses set out their stalls at a careers convention designed to give South Craven students an idea of their future path after school.

Organiser Karen Higson said the occasion recently was a "resounding success" for everyone who participated. She said many parents also attended the event.

She added: "Students travelled around the 'market' picking up ideas about careers that perhaps they had never previously considered.

"I was very happy with the number of people who came and showed an interest.

"The different types of organisations and businesses present varied from local and national engineering works offering apprenticeships, to universities and colleges, who were all keen to engage with our students.

"New to the event this year were Skipton Building Society, JN Bentley, Teconnex and UCFB Burnley.

"Students from all of the school's year groups attended, many of them still at the age and stage of indecision about which career path to take.

"Hopefully this convention, which is organised on a two year cycle, will have given them some ideas."
