PUBLIC toilets should be restored to Oxenhope, according to one of the village's parish councillors.
Cllr Reg Hindley said that as a destination for tourists, the village deserved to once again have the kind of facility provided for the general public since Victorian times.
Speaking at Oxenhope's annual parish meeting last Wednesday (April 15) Cllr Hindley said only two or three pubs in the village are within reach of most visitors who might want to use the loos in these premises.
He added: "I do appreciate the problem of damage to public toilets caused by vandals, but I think the provision of these facilities should remain at the back of councillors' minds.
"It isn't compulsory for councils to provide public toilets, but this is an obvious civic amenity which our Victorian ancestors provided."
The Bradford Council owned public toilet block in Lowertown, Oxenhope, was closed down and then sold to a private buyer in 2011. The property has since been demolished.
