THOUSANDS of people packed into Haworth for the village's 20th 1940s Weekend.

This year's occasion, which was raising money for the Soldiers, Sailors & Airmen's Families Association, began on Friday with most visitors and locals attending on Saturday and Sunday.

Crowds of people crammed into the main event locations, which included Haworth Central Park, Main Street and the Bronte Parsonage Museum car park.

They enjoyed military re-enactments, a fly-past on the Sunday, bands, refreshments, exhibitions, drill demonstrations and much more.

Exley Head resident Nick Macdonald, 42, who attended the weekend with his wife Samantha, 38, said: "I've been coming to this for five years but it's my wife's first time – I'm sure she'll be back!

"The wartime outfits people are dressed in are brilliant. They make such a big effort. Everyone does their bit to make this a great weekend."

There were doubts as to whether the 2015 weekend could go ahead, due to a lack of sponsorship. The event was saved after Keighley-based firm The Green Deal Factory Ltd, which also trades as Clever Energy Boilers, stepped in and offered to be the main sponsor.
