A KEIGHLEY firefighter used a bolt cutter to free a bird from a feeder.
The young jackdaw had caught its head in an ornamental metal feeder in a garden in Riddlesden.
The householder took the bird and the contraption to Keighley Fire Station earlier today to seek help.
Firefighter Adam Paley said he was more used to people calling at the fire station, in Bradford Road, for help with faulty smoke alarms.
He said: “The man showed me the jackdaw in the back of his car. It was just sitting there.”
The householder held the jackdaw while Firefighter Paley cut open the bird feeder with a bolt cropper, which is normally used to break padlocks.
The bird flew off from the fire station.
