VILLAGERS turned out in some "debatable" weather conditions on Saturday to make this year's Cononley Gala a success.

"There was a good attendance considering the debatable weather," said organiser Catherine Hayden. "Once the weather cleared up we were busy all afternoon."

One of the big attractions this year was the Northern Lights Street Orchestra, which led the procession around Cononley.

Catherine also said a dog show, organised by Steve Kirby from Ashlands Veterinary Centre in Glusburn, proved popular with villagers.

Six-year-old Millie Timbers won the girls' fell race and 13-year-old Adam Gregory was the boys' winner.

And, in the sports competition, Scarlett Miller took the girls' award and Aidan Lee was the best boy.

The New Inn beat The Railway in a tug of war competition between the village's two pubs.

Although totals have yet to be calculated, the money raised will benefit the Cononley Playing Fields.
