ENGLISH Derby winner Golden Horn is the star attraction at Sandown on Saturday in the £450,000 Coral Eclipse at 3.45, where the three-year-old is due to take on older horses for the first time, including Kevin Ryan’s stable star, The Grey Gatsby, the 7/2 second favourite.

John Gosden’s charge is a hotpot 1/3fav and should prevail again – though I don’t regard the race as a serious betting proposition – leading up to a planned crack at the Arc at Longchamp in October, with 9/2 currently on offer.

In Sandown’s Group 3 sprint at 2.00, the 6/1 available about Medicean Man looks tempting, while Spark Plug, who came down after clipping heels when challenging in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot, could make amends in the one-mile handicap at 2.35 at around 8/1 midweek, with Baltic Knight another to consider each way at 18/1.

At Haydock, the William Haggas-trained Awesome Power looks the one to beat in the 2.15, while in the Group 1 Lancashire Oaks at 2.50, Miss Marjurie is on a hat-trick and has leading claims, while I also expect improvement from Luca Cumani’s Jordan Princess.

In the feature handicap at 3.15, Godolphin’s Excellent Result could run well at a decent price if honouring the entry.

Ripon’s fourth evening meeting of the summer takes place next Monday, with tribute band, The Jailhouse Blues Brothers, performing live after racing. Then, it’s on to Pontefract next Tuesday, followed by Catterick the day after, the first of three consecutive Wednesday race meetings at the track.
