WAR HISTORIANS in Keighley can make a big splash at public events thanks to Keighley Town Council.

A grant from the council has enabled the Men of Worth Project to buy a gazebo and banner for when they showcase their work to the public.

Project members are trying to record the stories of everyone from the Keighley area who served their country in times of conflict, including the First and Second World Wars.

They regularly display pictures and other archive material at local events in the hope of attracting information from local people about the servicemen.

Men of Worth founder Andy Wade said that until now the group had been forced to borrow gazebos.

He said: “The Acorn Fund grant from Keighley Town Council for £244 has enabled us to purchase a gazebo, banner, printing and laminating materials for the creation of our displays, and to get public liability insurance.

“We're delighted with this. It will be most helpful in getting the work of the group out there to the people of Keighley and district.”

Men of Worth have also been given 10 ‘Velcro panel’' display boards by the West Yorkshire Archaeological Advisory Service.

He said: “They're in excellent condition and were surplus to their requirements, so we're extremely grateful and would like to give our thanks to Historical Environment Record officer Rosalind Buck.”

The Men of Worth had a column in the Keighley News each week to showcase the story of a local person who served in the First World War.
