KEIGHLEY-born Ricky Wilson has been signed-up as an ambassador with Honda.

The Kaiser Chiefs frontman and judge on hit BBC1 show The Voice is promoting the motor manufacturer's Civic Type R.

He drove the British-built vehicle at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Saturday (June 27) – the day after Kaiser Chiefs played to 65,000 people in Hyde Park with The Who.

The previous week, Ricky had secured his national B race licence at Knockhill under the guidance of Honda British Touring Car Championship driver Gordon 'Flash' Shedden.

"Learning to drive with Flash at Knockhill was an absolute blast and it was incredible seeing how the car handles when driven at speed and what it can do," said Ricky.

"I have learned an enormous amount of high-performance driving skills from Flash."

Mr Shedden said: "Ricky has a natural talent behind the wheel – and we discovered he drove much better when listening to the Kaiser Chiefs out on the track!

"His reactions were quick and smooth."

Leon Brannan, for Honda UK, said: "We are chuffed to bits that Ricky is our ambassador for Type R.

"It's a car with great racing pedigree that has a huge fanbase on the roads."
