SILSDEN Gala was held yesterday as the last event of the town’s Grand DeParty.

The gala, in Silsden Park, celebrated the first anniversary of the Tour de France coming through the town and 2014.

A procession along the town’s main street included decorated bikes, prams and scooters, as well as individuals in costumes, including a jellyfish and a soggy Zumba dancer.

Participants included Accrington Pipe Band and young soccer players from Silsden Knights.

Handprints Nursery of Silsden won the best walking group prize, as well as the overall award for best entry in the procession. Neil Jordan and his Bad Dad Dancing float was voted the best vehicle, and the best queen float was won by the Colne Gala Queen.

Gala committee chairman Mags Croft said she wanted to thank everyone who supported the gala.

She added: “Because of the rain the gala was quite difficult, and ended early.”
