A KEIGHLEY facility which uses the latest technology to design and produce "almost anything" is opening its doors to local young people this summer.

The Fab Lab, based in Keighley Campus Leeds City College, is running a series of creative workshops for youngsters aged 12 and above to help them find out what modern manufacturing and engineering is really like as well as giving them a chance to learn skills and make new friends.

Courses began on Tuesday (July 28) and will continue until August 28.

They cover activities such as product design, T-shirt printing, laser cutting, 3D printing and CNC machining which is used in furniture production.

Chris Stott, Leeds City College's business operations manager, said: "The power of making can really boost young peoples’ confidence, in addition to improving communication and team working skills in a fun and creative environment."

Fab Lab specialises in provides educational, commercial and entrepreneurial opportunities for people interested in modern manufacturing.

It is equipped with a range of machinery including vacuum moulding, 3D printing, and vinyl cutters, with technically-skilled staff on-site to help newcomers get to grips with the technology.

Courses will run for one or three days and include lunch, with prices starting from £35. All those taking part will receive a certificate of attendance.
